Racers already in Belgium with fewer accessories

At a meeting held on Wednesday, the Formula One Strategic Group decided that certain measures would come into force in Belgium this year, which would make racing cars more difficult to manage.

The key changes include even less assistance to racers via radio, and already in Spa, racers will have to start completely by hand, without any aids or systems.

"Major restrictions on driver assistance systems and restrictions on instructions via radio have received unanimous support and will be introduced under a fast-track procedure, starting with this year's race for the Belgian GP and then in the 2016 season," the FIA said in a statement. "Racers will have to fully master the race car with these measures, which will increase the interest and unpredictability of the races," they added.

In addition to the faster race cars for the 2017 season, the group also discussed the changed qualifying format and the race format for next season. It is expected to be an additional shorter race on Saturday or a changed qualification system.

They also approved plans for the teams to choose the tire mixes they will compete with from the 2016 season onwards. Teams must now consult with Pirelli on how this will be most easily achieved.

Of course, all changes must be approved by the F1 commission, and then finally confirmed by the FIE sports council, which is expected to happen at the end of this month.
