Fabio Quartararo has a contract with Yamaha only until the end of the 2022 season, and the current world champion is not impressed with the progress after the first day of testing the motorcycle prototype for next season, so he wants to see improvements before extending the cooperation.

The Frenchman was only ninth after the first day of the two, 0.7 seconds behind the time of Takaaki Nakagami. After the test day ended, he said the motorcycle is virtually the same as in September, when he tested it in Misano and Yamaha issued a warning that a lack of development progress could affect his future on their team.

“For now, it’s a little too early to think about a new contract,” he said. “I do not want to sign a new contract before Malaysia, as I want to see progress in the development of the motorcycle. I don’t think it’s unusual for us not to sign a contract for 2023 when the 2022 season hasn’t even started yet. I know how much I’m worth, so I’ll wait a bit to see in Sepang if the engine is going to be any better. I demand important changes, and for other things I would like to see them at least make an effort and offer at least a minimal improvement. But if I see that they go in a completely different direction with the development, it could affect my future with Yamaha. ”

The Frenchman would like to see a more powerful powertrain, after the lack of power this season was reflected mainly in the final speed, which was at least 8km / h lower than Ducati's.
