After Friday's final superspecial, Sebastien Ogier increased his lead over Dani Sord at the rally in Portugal to 4.4 seconds. The Volkswagen racer found a two-second advantage in the 3.27-kilometer speed test against a competitor in Citroen, after Sordo came closer to the Frenchman by more than eight seconds in the third and fourth stages. Ogier admitted that he had taken some time off by choosing soft tires.

Mikko Hirvonen won the fifth and Friday last stage with a Citroen, which finished HP 0.9 seconds ahead of Ogier.

Former Formula One racer Robert Kubica made his debut in the WRC2 class at the Portuguese Rally, but he had to withdraw from the rally before the last stage because he ran out of tires. The Pole was ranked second in his class.
