Ben Spies, a Pramac racer, will have to miss the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez due to numerous injuries. He will be replaced by Ducati test driver Michelle Pirro.
Spies transferred to Pramac from Yamaha, but has recently struggled with injuries sustained at last year’s Malaysian Grand Prix, where the American broke a rib and dislocated his right shoulder. The 28-year-old was forced to miss the last two races of the 2012 season, but a repeated drop in tests in Sepang has restored injuries that have caused Ben severe pain in the first two races of this year in Sepang and Austin.
Pirro made his MotoGP series debut last year before joining Ducati as a test racer. The Italian is expected to compete in three races this year.
