Sergio Perez will have to miss his second training session at the Brazilian Grand Prix as his race car was shattered by Daniel Juncadella in the morning training session. Juncadella replaced Perez in Interlagos, but ended up in a protective fence at turn eight.
The Mercedes DTM Series racer described the accident as follows: “This is a really sad end to training, especially on a racing weekend. It was one of the most fatal collisions I have ever had. I really didn’t expect this, but the track has a new asphalt surface that is really very smooth. Each lap was better, but in that last lap I lost control and flew off the track. I was too optimistic, and then all of a sudden I had protective tires in front of me, a wall and it was over. "
Juncadella added at the end that he tried to crash into the wall as straight as possible in order to smash the car as little as possible, but it was still enough that he would not be able to drive with it in the second practice.
