Vettel took the initiative in the second

 

Sebastian Vettel put things right in his second free practice in Austin, Texas, and recorded the fastest time. The Red Bull racer overtook the second fastest, Mark Webber, by a lap time of 1: 37.305 on medium hard tires by just over a tenth. The Red Bulls were followed in third and fourth place by Mercedes racers, where Nico Rosberg was again better than Lewis Hamilton, who is competing here with a new chassis.

The second practice went smoothly, with Lotus racer Heikki Kovalainen shining in fifth place to replace Kimi Raikkonen.
