Marini: Nobody complained about Honda's dominance

Luca Marini does not believe that the dominance of Ducati could harm the sport.

This season has been extremely successful for Ducati. After having already confirmed the title of the best among the constructors with five races to go, the title among the teams is more or less under the roof and they are just about to go for the racing title for the first time since 2007. For the first time since 2019, such a team can reach for the triple crown after the last time Marc Marquez almost single-handedly secured it for Honda. Compared to that season, things are a bit different now.

Ducati statistics this season

Victories– 11 out of 18 (61.1%)

Victory stage– 29 out of 54 (53.7%)

Points – 1125 out of 2520 (44.6%)

The best starting position – 14 out of 18 (77.8%)

First starting row – 38 out of 54 (70.4%)

Number of laps in the lead – 302 out of 441 (68.5%)

Ducati has as many as eight motorcycles on the starting line (four more than any other manufacturer) whose racers regularly rank at the very top.

At a recent race in Australia at the Phillip Island circuit, on a track that does not traditionally suit them, six of their drivers finished between third and eighth place. Aleix Espargaro complained about Ducati's dominance after the race. Luca Marini, however, does not listen to his words.

"Each period is dominated by a certain team. So is Honda - for 10 years, no one complained. It is up to the others to progress. Our dominance will not spoil the sport," Marini was clear.

This was most likely not related to the dominance of Honda at the end of the era of motorcycles up to 500cc and the beginning of the MotoGP class.

"All manufacturers have prepared exceptional motorcycles this year. In addition to a great motorcycle, Ducati also has many fast racers. It's the combination of these that makes the difference.”

As the Italian added, a large number of motorcycles also means more opportunities for data analysis.

"Each racer has his strong points on a certain track. Being able to follow the data of other racers and see where you can improve is a big advantage. We are all very competitive and push each other.”
