Red Bull boss Christian Horner has revealed that the FIA will examine the rear wings of the race cars with new tests after the Qatar Grand Prix qualifiers. The team from Milton Keynes revealed photos on Saturday, which are supposed to prove that the back wings of the Mercedes team are bending. The wings are said to be in breach of the rules prohibiting the bending of aerodynamic elements, although current tests of wing flexibility do not show any irregularities.

Red Bull has not yet filed an official protest against the Mercedes race cars, but the FIA has already submitted enough teth evidence in the previous race, which triggered measures, including new testing. “The rear wings will be weighed down with weights,” Horner revealed. "It will be loaded with about 70 to 80 kilograms over the entire surface, and then weights will be added to find out how much the wings bend."

Horner says his camp suspects that Mercedes engineers have invented a clever way to laminate wing components that create a vacuum in bends, and under the load of airflow on the planes, the wings bend and reduce air resistance. “At speeds above 250km / h, the wing can be seen moving. It’s nice to see, however, that the FIA is proactive as they have examined the photos. Here in Qatar, the wings don’t worry us as much, as the final speed is not as very important as in Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi. New tests will reveal the potential flexibility of the wing. The FIA oversees these things with five people, and there are thousands of engineers in the paddock looking for ways to circumvent the rules. Before the last races, which will be important for the decision on the championship, we want to make sure that we all play within the same rules, ”added Horner.
