New race cars too slow

Last month, Formula One presented new racing cars at tests in Jerez, where we witnessed a new aerodynamic package of "long noses." Otherwise, the engines produce a sufficient amount of horsepower, but in corners they are simply too slow.

It is worth mentioning that the fastest time of this year's tests in Jerez was eight seconds slower than the best ever set by Michael Schumacher in 2004. Many racers are justifiably worried about where this is going, according to Adrian Sutil: "We have less pressure, by somewhere between 20 and 30 percent compared to last year. In addition, the tires are a bit stiffer, making it increasingly difficult to set faster times. It’s really sad that Formula One is getting slower rather than faster. It’s definitely nice to have turbo engines again, that’s definitely a step forward.

If we look at the engines, everything is fine, but in aerodynamics, where we lose speed in corners, it will be necessary to relax a bit. The tires are also too hard, they could probably have at least last year's grip. "Fernando Alonso, for example, thinks that this year's Formula One cars are not as difficult to drive, even easier than last year, but you are far from boring:" They are easy to drive. , but in fast corners you have to be more collected, and there are even more buttons on the steering wheel. Despite the fact that we are slower, we still enjoy it, we have fun, for example, with a card that is more than half a minute slower than Formula One cars. "

Felipe Massa has a similar opinion, saying: “Racing cars are really slower than last year, but when you drive at the limit and do your best, it is still difficult to drive. The race car is a challenge, of course, but you don't feel that slowness when you get to the extreme point of the race car. Of course, when there is more grip and it becomes easier, the slowness is very noticeable. ”All in all, Sutil calmed down a bit, saying that next year the cars will be significantly faster, as the new rules require longer development, which could not be achieved already now.

It is interesting that Jerez has been hosting pre-season tests since 1999, which is why we can easily compare race cars in the pre-season period in terms of age. The graph below thus confirms the fear of racers who fear that Formula One is getting too slow.
