The new Audi R8 - an athlete with laser vision

Since the start of production of the Audi R8 in 2007, quite a bit of petrol has passed and the prices of the first units on the market are already approaching less than half of the retail price of the new vehicle. Perhaps this was a sign for Audi that it was time to present a model that will satisfy customers who are already a little bit stung by the wallet.

The new R8 will be available in two engine versions, namely the V10 version with 540 horsepower and the V10 Plus version, which will boast 70 horsepower more, ie 610. This is a big leap compared to the first generation R8, as it is the first the generation received only 421 horsepower in the V8-powered version. Both new engines will be placed centrally - between the front and rear axles. Unlike its predecessor, there is no talk of a manual transmission yet. Only a seven-speed automatic transmission with a double clutch will be available - for the pleasures of manual shifting with a lever, you will just have to think of one of the competitors while they are still available.
With the aforementioned specifications, the weaker model is expected to reach a hundred in 3,5 seconds, while the stronger one will be 0,3 seconds faster. A special feature of the new sports car model, which is one of the most expensive vehicles in Audi's sales chain, are certainly the laser lights. This is the latest trend among manufacturers competing in who will install the most exclusive accessory that will adorn the equipment list. Laser lights have already been introduced on Audi's A8 model, and their special feature is that they automatically adjust the light beam. At the same time, this is longer than the range of conventional xenon bulbs, and with the help of sensors, the system itself limits the beam so as not to disturb oncoming participants.
However, these lights will not shine everywhere, despite their strong brightness. Current U.S. laws governing this area do not allow the use of laser lights due to the mandatory use of a short and long beam headlight, which is not clearly defined for these lights.
A fully electric version of the Audi R8 e-tron with a planned range of 450 km is also planned, as well as a Spyder model.
The official presentation will take place at the Geneva Motor Show, but until then it will be necessary to be patient with the photos in the gallery.
