Takaaki Nakagami was the fastest at the end of the first day of the last MotoGP tests of the 2021 season in Jerez. The Japanese reigned at the top of the table most of the day after setting some fast times on this year’s motorcycle and then testing a prototype for the 2022 season.

He was followed by three racers in Ducats. Johann Zarco, Enea Bastianini, who will advance from this year's Ducati GP19 to this year's GP21, and Francesco Bagnaia, this year's runner-up.

Maverick Vinales was fifth with Aprilia ahead of Alex Rins at Suzuki, and Franco Morbidelli, the highest-ranked racer on Yamaha. Teammate and world champion Fabio Quartararo was ninth on the Yamaha M1 prototype for the 2022 season after Jack Miller with a Ducati ranked between him and teammate Morbidelli.

Tenth was KTM's Brad Binder, and eleventh and twelfth were two more Ducati racers, Luca Marini and Jorge Martin.

Raul Fernandez, a Tech3 racer, was the fastest among next-season rookies, while eight-time world champion Marc Marquez is still absent due to vision problems. The colors of the Repsol Honda, however, were represented by Pol Espargaro after he missed the race in Valencia, who continued to develop the prototype for 2022.

This was the first time since the start of the 2020 season that motorcycle manufacturers, Honda, Ducati, Suzuki and Yamaha, were able to test the innovations on their powertrains, the development of which was frozen due to Covid, while the KTM engine was frozen after the first race. 2021, and Aprilia was able to develop its own all the time.

New teams appeared in the testing for the first time. Valentino Rossi's VBR46 Ducati team, the RNF Yamaha team, as Petronas SRT is now called, and the independent Gresini Ducati team (formerly known as the Aprilie team).

The two-day test, which ends on Friday night, features all newcomers to the 2022 season, with Darryn Binder (RNF Yamaha), Fabio di Giannantonio (Gresini) and Marco Bezzecchi (VR46) tasting MotoGP engines for the first time.
