Dorna today signed an agreement with Kelet Magzarorszàg Versenypálya Kft, with which MotoGP is expected to return to Hungary in the 2023 season. For this purpose, a new racetrack is to be built near the town of Debrecen, but not much is known yet, in terms of length or layout.

In June last year, Minister of Innovation and Technology Laszlo Palkovics announced that the state would provide 188 million euros for the construction of a new racetrack, although it was planned at the time that the racetrack would be built on the outskirts of Hajdunanas . In addition to the racetrack, the complex will also include service facilities, training facilities and a conference center, as well as hotels. The project aims to help the economy in the country after the coronavirus crisis.

Hungary has been flirting for years with a return to the MotoGP racing calendar, the first attempt fell into the water in 2009 when the races were to be hosted by Balatonring, and then rumors became loud that we would see the Hungarian race in the 2022 season.

“The plans are coming true, though,” Dorne boss Carmelo Ezpeleta said. "We are very happy, because Hungarians have a great passion for sports."

Gabor Talmacsi, who competed in the World Cup for ten years, was present at the signing of the agreement, and on this occasion said: “For me, this is a very emotional moment. I am very proud to be here. I represented my homeland for 10 years as a MotoGP racer, but now I represent it in a different role and I want to give it back by supporting a project like this. ”

Talmacsi said the location of the racetrack is very important as it is close to Slovakia, Ukraine and Romania, from where many spectators are expected.
