MotoGP has additional testing before the start of the season

KTM team leader Pit Beirer confirmed for the Autosport portal that additional tests should be organized before the start of the season.

Due to the outbreak of Coronavirus, four races have already been canceled or postponed. In practice, it is also quite clear that even in the month of May, when three races are scheduled for work, we will not follow the best racers on two wheels. According to this scenario, which can change very quickly, the best two-wheelers will compete in Barcelona for the first time. This means that by then, more than three months will have passed since the last tests in Qatar. Beirer confirmed that talks have already begun with Dorne's leading men on organizing re-tests before the first race - no matter which one it is. This is supposed to take place a week or two before the start of the racing weekend.

“We’ve been thinking about that before,” he said when asked about the possibility of running a test before the season starts.

“This is very important, because we can't just put racers on motorcycles after all this time and expect good racing. We will definitely organize testing and then start the season. ”

Dorna was one of the most proactive motorsport organizations during this challenging period. Namely, they have already changed or updated the calendar several times.

The leader of the Austrian team described the cooperation with Dorna and the International Motorcycle Federation (FIM) as excellent. He was only bothered by (too) multiple updates of the calendar.

“Communication is great. FIM President Jorge Viegas has always been available to me as well as Dorne. Only the constant updating of the calendar was a bit annoying. It happened almost every day. It seems absurd to me, as no one can know when we will be able to start the season. It is necessary to wait for a solution to be found. It is necessary to remain realistic. If we just look at the situation in Italy, we see that there is no need to hurry. ”
