Portugal's Miguel Oliveira will miss the MotoGP Argentina Grand Prix after suffering injuries in a collision with Marco Marquez at his home race in Portimao that were only revealed after further investigations.

The Honda rider took the blame for the crash and explained that there was a locked wheel while braking in the third corner, stressing that he was not overtaking. Both Oliveira and Jorge Martin, who Marquez hit just before colliding with the Portuguese, said the eight-time world champion, who himself suffered injuries to his right thumb and will miss the race in Argentina due to surgery, was too aggressive in overtaking.

Oliveira, who aims to return in Austin, but the RNF Aprilia team will not replace him in Argentina, is thus the fourth victim of the first MotoGP race of the year. In addition to him and Marquez, Enea Bastianini, who suffered a fractured scapula in a collision with Luca Marini, and Pol Espargara, who had a nasty fall during the second training session and injured his vertebrae, lungs and fractured his jaw, will be watching the event from afar.
