When Michael Schumacher married his then-girlfriend Corinna Betsch in 1995, some wondered if any of his potential sons would follow in his successful racing footsteps. In 1997, they had a daughter, Gina-Marie, and in March 1999, a son, Mick. It was Mick who later, in fact, slowly began to engage in racing; but because he did not want to be under any additional media pressure as the son of a famous father, he drove under the name Mick Betsch - with his mother's maiden name.

At the end of 2014, he started driving with his "real" last name in the German Formula 4 Championship in the Jenzer Motorsport team, in 2015 he moved to the Van Amersfoot Racing team in the same race - and immediately shone in the first race in Oschersleben. He had a good career in karting before, but this time it was a completely new experience for him.

Qualifications in Formula 4 races are divided into two parts; in each of the parts they are ranked in the starting ranks according to their achievements. Fastest in the first, second in the second, and so on. Mick qualified for tenth place in his group and had to start the first of three races from 19th place, of course in the tenth row. He was probably not the most satisfied with this, but he showed better form during the race and finished in ninth place, which was very solid.

Not only that - the 16-year-old was the highest-ranked rookie, and he also drove the fastest lap among all the rookies. When asked about it, he said “Of course I’m glad I caught up with the others. At first, it didn’t even occur to me that I was the best rookie! After yesterday's qualifications and my starting place, I am very satisfied with the achievement. "

Despite a good start in the ADAC Formula 4 Championship, Mick failed to maintain good form from the first in the second race and finished in twelfth place. Even with that, he was still ranked third among newcomers, but in his opinion, he could have been even better.

This was followed by the last race of the evening, in which Schumacher Jr. started from second place in the inverted starting order, which was based on the results of the opening racing event. He managed a solid start and took the lead in the first turn, but he did not manage to increase his advantage, as he drove a safety car on the track in the first lap. But as soon as everything was sorted out and the safety car pulled away, Mick kept his place and continued very strongly. His tires really gave up in the last laps, which was taken advantage of by his more experienced teammate Joey Mawson, who came very close to him. Nevertheless, the German beginner was up to the task and successfully defended his advantage, with the help of the second arrival of a safety car, thus reliably bringing the race to an end in the lead.

After this remarkable race, Mick said, “Of course I’m excited. My first racing weekend couldn’t have ended better! We managed a good start as my tires were still fresh, and everything went well since then, except for the very end, when things got a little tighter again. Of course, I wasn't too dissatisfied with the safety car. "

To describe the entire racing weekend, he added: "Overall, I'm really happy with the start of the season and I'm already looking forward to the next package of races." June on the Styrian Red Bull Ring in Spielberg.
