Roberto Merhi is mentioned as the main candidate for the second seat in the Manor team (formerly Marussia), after he recently signed a contract with Pons Racing in the Renault 3,5 series. The team has applied for a super license for the Spaniard, who competed with Caterham in his first free practice at Monza, Sochi and Suzuki last year, but so far they have only managed to obtain a license to drive on Friday.

Merhi has already recorded some more visible successes in the lower series. In 2011, he won the Euro F3 Series title and then moved to the DTM. Last year, he was third in the Renault series.

However, the question remains whether he will only compete in the opening races or whether he may leave the seat in the Renault 3,5, where the races do not start until the end of April. Former Formula 1 racer Mark Blundell has the XNUMX-year-old under his wing.
