Toto Wolff is struggling these days with a decision on who will race next season at Mercedes alongside Lewis Hamilton. The question that arises is whether the racing lineup will remain the same as this year and Valtteri Bottas will keep his place, or whether there will be changes and Finch’s race car will be taken over by Esteban Ocon. But an even bigger change could come to the Silver Arrows team a year later, when Max Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel are expected to be on the wish list.

Hamilton’s contract expires at the end of the 2020 season, as does Vettl’s with Ferrari. According to Wolff, the head of the Mercedes team, the German is one of the key players in Formula One for a few more seasons. “You don’t become a four-time world champion just by chance,” Wolff said in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport. “Sebastian is and will be the mainstay of Ferrari. What he will do in the 2021 season, however, we do not yet know. After 2020, everything is open, ”said the Austrian when asked if Vettel is on Mercedes' wish list.

Max Verstappen was also among the candidates, but Wolff did not want to add fuel to the fire: "we are talking about events that are still quite far away, as we are now fighting for the title of champion of the 2019 season and planning for the 2020 season." However, he denied the possibility of Fernando Alonso returning to F1 with his team: "We don't want to repeat the scenarios that took place when Alonso and Lewis were teammates at McLaren."
