Mercedes ready to copy Red Bull

Toto Wolff has said that Mercedes are willing to copy Red Bull's racing car and do so without shame if it helps them to improve the racing car.

When the technical regulations were changed last year, the German team deviated greatly from the winning path, and the hope that this year's W14 racing car with its "zeropod" design will again be competitive with the best is diminishing, so they decided to take another path.

The team hopes that the first fruits of the changes will already be in the first European races, when the car will undergo changes mainly in the area of ​​the sides, but also elsewhere.

This year, most of the teams decided to imitate the design of the Red Bull racing car, which already proved to be the fastest last year. One of them is the Aston Martin team, which has made great progress compared to last season, and this testifies to the fact that changing the concept of a racing car can bring improvements, so it is very likely that the idea will be imitated by Mercedes, although it will probably not be identical a copy.

"At the moment we are not concerned with how the racing car should look," explained Wolff. "The only important thing is that it will be the fastest racing car. I don't really care if that means it looks like a Red Bull or a SpaceX rocket, it just has to be fast. If it looks like a Red Bull, we'll stick a little bull sticker somewhere on the car and we won't be ashamed if the car is fast.

At Aston Martin, they proved that in six or seven months you can gain enough speed to fight at the very top, which is also encouraging for us. The fact that such steps forward are possible means for all of us that we should never write off the season."

Wolff explained that the improvements to the car will also focus on the settings of the car and its ground clearance. "Last year the car was too low, this year it's too high and now we think we know where the right ratio is."
