Lewis Hamilton slammed into the protective tires and completely destroyed the front of the W05 race car, which had been unveiled just hours before. The accident was caused by broken front wing carriers, which gave way before the first turn of the Jerez racetrack.
The Briton was the only racer next to Jean-Eric Vergen in the morning to drive the whole lap and thus record time. The car was so badly damaged in the crash that Hamilton is unlikely to return to the track today.
