At Mercedes, they used Friday's free practice to experiment with race car settings to try to find solutions for jumping. But the effort did not pay off.

“We tried a few different settings to better understand the jumping issues,” Andrew Shovlin explained. “Some settings have exacerbated the problem, others have helped, but we have not yet found a solution to solve the problem completely. Jumping can be mitigated for qualifying, as it occurs in some curves, wasting time. ”

They are convinced that with the problems solved, the car can become much faster and although they understand their car better than in the previous race, they believe that they are still slower than Ferrari and Red Bull.

“We have found a better balance compared to Bahrain, and we are also satisfied with the wear of the tires for now. We need to improve the fast laps, which is what we will focus on in the third training session. We still have a lot of work to do before we can compete with Ferrari and Red Bull, ”Shovlin explained.

Mercedes opted for rear fenders with less air resistance this weekend, allowing for a higher final speed. Lewis Hamilton believes that the W13 needs to be improved in this area. “We still have a lot of the same problems as in the previous race. It's certainly even harder here because of the fast turns, but the traction on the track is good, we just have to find more speed on the planes. ”
