The McLaren team set a new tire change record in the 45th round of the Mexican Grand Prix. This one took 1.98 seconds in Daniel Ricciardo's car, which is a new F1 record under the new rules, which are supposed to slow down pit stops, as well as the team's fastest pit stop in its history.

The new rules on stops came into force in the middle of the 2021 season at the initiative of the Mercedes team, and among other things, they foresee minimum reaction times of over 0.2 seconds for the green light to turn on after the wheel has been bolted onto the racing car.

Stops have become a little slower since the new rules were adopted, but McLaren's mechanics have actually recorded two fastest stops in Mexico, in addition to the record 1.89 seconds, the second fastest, which lasted 2.29 seconds.

The previous record (under the new rules) was held by the Red Bull team, which changed the tires on Sergio Perez's car at the Dutch Grand Prix in 2.09 seconds, even otherwise Perez's stops were the fastest, as the Mexican held the fastest three stop times - in addition to the Dutch Grand Prix, another 2.10 seconds in Monza and 2.13 in Austin.

Red Bull set an absolute tire change record at the 2019 Brazilian GP when Max Verstappen's car was changed in 1.82 seconds, which is still the fastest stop in F1 history, following Verstappen's 1.88 second stop at the 2019 German GP.
