The McLaren team will break a long tradition this season, as their title car will no longer feature the famous MP4 designation, which has been in use since Ron Dennis took over McLaren in 1981.

Dennis, who said goodbye to running the company, which also includes a Formula One team, at the end of last season, took over the team with the help of tobacco sponsor Marlbor, and he himself previously led Project Four Racing. In connection with this, he added the MP4 label to the Formula One race car, which is a combination of both, the Marlboro Project Four.

The first race car with the MP4 mark hit the track in the 1981 season and was driven by John Watson at the Grand Prix of Argentina, and the use of the mark continued until last season and the MP4-31 race car.

From this year on, the chassis of the race cars will be marked with the MCL designation, so this year’s race car will be called the MCL32. With the new head of the team and the new name, this will be marked by an even more visible change. His color combination will also feature orange, which comes from the team’s history.
