Max Verstappen clearly overcame the problems he struggled with in free practice at the qualifying for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola and won the best starting position for Sunday's race.

The Red Bull driver was not overly satisfied with the behavior of the RB20 during the free practice sessions, but on Saturday he showed much better form and won the pole position ahead of the Australian Oscar Piastri, who was only 0.074 seconds behind the Dutchman. Fourth was Piastri's teammate Lando Norris, who was 0.091 seconds slower than the Red Bull racer.

With fourth place, Charles Leclerc slightly disappointed the home fans of Ferrari, who after Friday's practice sessions hoped that Red Bull would not be as strong this weekend as we are used to. The Monaco man was behind Verstappen by 0.224 seconds.

Carlos Sainz will start the race from fifth place in the second Ferrari car. Sixth was George Russell, ahead of the surprisingly fast Yuki Tsunoda, Lewis Hamilton and Daniel Ricciardo, who at the end of Q2 made sure that the Red Bull driver Sergio Perez was eliminated from the continuation of qualifying. Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg was tenth.
