Felipe Massa has confirmed that he will part ways with his longtime employer, the Ferrari team, at the end of this season.

The Brazilian has been racing for the Italian team for eight years and has come under increasing pressure in recent weeks. His departure seemingly opens the door to Kimi Raikkonen’s return.

“From 2014 onwards, I will no longer race for Ferrari,” confirmed Massa, who thanked the team for all the victories and his family and sponsors for their support. The Brazilian added that he will focus on the best possible results in the last seven races of this season for the time being, but after that he has no plans to say goodbye to the fastest circus. “For next season, I would like to find a team that will offer me a competitive race car with which I can win, and fight for the championship, which remains my biggest goal,” he concluded.

Massa entered Formula One with the Sauber team in 2002, where he caught the attention of Ferrari bosses. A year later, he moved to Maranello, where he helped the team as a test racer. In 2006, he was promoted to regular racer and recorded his first victory at the Turkish Grand Prix. He reached his peak at Ferrari in the 2008 season, where he ran just a few meters to the world title. In the 2009 season, his career came to a temporary halt after he injured his head at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Despite a terrible injury, the Brazilian is back, but the winner of eleven Grand Prix races has not shown form since we witnessed it before the accident.
