Massa: I was powerless because of Alonso

Felipe Massa said he does not regret leaving the Ferrari team, where the engineers stopped taking him into account in development and settings with the arrival of Fernando Alonso. “My story with Ferrari was wonderful at first, honest, such as the applause on the podium at Monza portrayed,” said Massa, who left Maranello after eight years of collaboration. "There came a time when I had to feel important again."

The Brazilian explained that his status in the team has changed dramatically with the arrival of Alonso in the 2010 season. “At first, I was important. But then things changed with the arrival of Alonso. I looked around and realized that all of a sudden I had no more words in the details. This sport, however, is cut into details, which you can only change if you enjoy a certain status in the team and have a certain strength. It's all about power and I've lost it, ”explained Massa, who lost his world title by a hair in the 2008 season, when teammate Kimi Raikkonen experienced a similar loss of power and influence in the team.

“I felt insignificant. I saw this just by looking into the eyes of the teammates. I just couldn't be happy there anymore, ”he added, adding that he thinks Ferrari's approach was wrong when Alonso arrived. “I’ve thought many times that I need to be less polite. That I have to be more relentless and selfish, and then I looked in the mirror and said it wasn't me. ”
