Felipe Massa said that during a heavy downpour he shouted to ask them to stop the race. The Japanese GP started behind a safety car as there was a lot of water on the track due to heavy rain. Conditions improved, and in the 44th lap of the 53 planned, the race was suspended as Jules Bianchi crashed in heavy rain again.

On the way off the track, the Frenchman collided with a tractor that was pulling Adiran Sutil's car, which had flown off the track only a lap earlier.

After the race, Massa said he felt they should have stopped the race well before they did. “I’m worried because I heard he crashed into a tractor,” said Massa, who had already visited the unfortunate Bianchi at the hospital. “They started the race too fast and finished too late in non-driving conditions. I had shouted on the radio five laps earlier to stop the race because there was too much water on the track, but they took too much time. ”
