Martin revealed why he chose Ducati

Jorge Martin was one of the racers who marked last season’s MotoGP class. Already in his inaugural season, the Spaniard justified the trust of Ducati and the words of many who drew attention to him before the start of the season. Martin drew attention to himself with his speed in the lower categories. Already in his second race in the MotoGP class, he stepped on the podium and celebrated his first victory in Austria. The fall in training before the race in Portugal, which caused him to miss four races, prevented him from finishing the season even higher than ninth place as the best rookie.

Last year, Martin proved to be not only a very fast, but also an intelligent racer. He attributes a lot of credit for his success, in addition to the team he has around him, to the decision to leave KTM and move to Ducati.

“I could transfer to practically any team. Not exactly into a factory team, but I would have a factory motorcycle. In the end, I decided that my best sporting, not financial, decision would be to switch to Ducati. I am very pleased with my decision. The bow was the best choice as we have a factory motorcycle available. Not all parts may be exactly the same, but most are. The support of the factory team is exceptional, perhaps the best among all the teams in MotoGP.

The reason for choosing Ducati in their mentality

In addition to the exceptional support of the factory team, the Spaniard also praised the mentality and atmosphere within the team. A passion that helps him stay motivated.

“The atmosphere in the team is exceptional. Much of this also depends on the racer himself. I try to create a very family atmosphere within the team. This is crucial for me, because we have to trust each other and communicate in a nice way when something goes wrong. ”

“So it’s important to win and lose as a team. Pramac is a place that allows me to learn a lot next season and have the opportunity to win. ”

“The biggest difference between teams is where people come from. Are they Japanese or Italians. It is good to work with the Italians, because they are very fast, they find a solution quickly, maybe this is not the best at first. It’s important to me to be able to try new things quickly when problems arise. The Japanese may be a little slower in finding solutions but when they find it this one is almost always very good. At KTM, things are somewhere in between. The Italian style suits me as it is similar to the Spanish. Relationships and chemistry within the team are much more important here. And that fits my character.

A season full of ups and downs

The great collaboration between Martin and the team meant a great season - in addition to winning, he took the podium three more times. The results surprised him as well.

“I didn’t expect to win in the first season. Before the start, I was hoping to fight for the TOP 6, maybe towards the end of the season to be close to the podium for the winners. However, we managed to win the best start in the second race and qualify for the winners' podium. He wins in Austria, the first for Pramac in twenty-five years. Amazingly, I felt like a real star back then. In the end, I even became the rookie of the year. ”

"I am just sorry for the fall in Portugal. The injury somewhat halted my rapid progress. Still, I learned a lot from it. Last season was both the best and the worst of my career. It was hard to get to that level, it will be even harder to stay here. I was a rookie last year and was able to perform under a little less pressure. Even if I made some mistake I could justify it with that. This will not be the case this year. "

The goals for next season are clear

Now is the time for the next step. It is difficult to define goals already. If we succeed in good pre-season testing and I will become even more friendly with the motorcycle, we can aim for an overall ranking among the TOP 5. This will be very important. Being there at the end of the year means we will be close to the top three. So the goal is more for wins and podium finishes for winners. We want to be at the forefront of all races. ”

“I want to be completely honest, the goal for 2023 is to be in the factory team. In the end, both the racer and the winning team are in the factory team. I am very happy in Pramac is the best team for me at the moment. But if you want to achieve the best results then you have to be on the factory team. ”
