Jorge Martin won the MotoGP sprint race in Motegi, Japan, and once again closed the gap in the championship classification. Leader Francesco Bagnaia was third after passing Jack Miller with three laps to go, with Brad Binder finishing the race ahead of him. The difference between him and Martin before Sunday's race is only eight points.
Johann Zarco finished fifth after Marco Bezzecchi aggressively attacked Marco Marquez with five laps to go, pushing the Honda rider off the line and costing them both places. Bezzecchi then overtook Marquez for sixth place with two laps to go. Fabi di Giannantonio was eighth, ahead of Maverick Vinales and Raul Fernandez.
