Repsol Honda racer Marc Marquez secured the best starting position for the Indianapolis race with an incredible lap of 1: 37.958. Even closer to him came Jorge Lorenzo, who was more than half a second slower. The third fastest was Dani Pedrosa.
Marquez got all the free practice and was considered the favorite for the best starting position in the qualifiers. He also confirmed his role as the favorite and finished fourth in the pole position of the season, improving the track record by 0.374 seconds.
Stefan Bradl was among the fastest all weekend, but in qualifying the German fell at high speed and as he could not continue, he will start the race from eighth place.
Valentino Rossi finished ninth in most of the qualifiers. The Italian failed to break through to the top, but in the end he was 1.3 seconds behind the excellent Marquez.
Lorenza and Pedroso in second and third place were separated by only a good hundredth, Cal Crutchlow will start the race from fourth place, followed by Alvaro Bautista and Nicky Hayden at the start. Bradley Smith was seventh, Bradl eighth, Rossi ninth, and Andrea Dovizioso finished ten.
