Marquez won in Germany, now also leading the championship

 

Repsol Honda racer Marc Marquez withstood the growing pressure of the German Grand Prix under increasing pressure from Cal Crutchlow, winning by just 1.5 seconds. With his second victory this year, the Spaniard climbed to the top in the World Cup scoring, ahead of his teammate Dani Pedroso.

Valentino Rossi jumped into the lead from third place, followed closely by home side Stefan Bradl. Crutchlow fell all the way to seventh place. To the general delight of the 83.000-strong crowd, Bradl overtook Rossi towards the end of the first lap and took the lead, but the celebration in the stands subsided when Marquez, who fell to fourth place after the start, broke through to the forefront. The Spaniard took the lead again in the third round and began to distance himself from his rivals.

Rossi and Crutchlow then overtook Bradl. Rossi managed it 22 laps before the end and Crutchlow two laps later.

Halfway through the race, Marquez took the lead with a two-second lead. Rossi could not follow the newcomer to the MotoGP series. What’s more, the Italian started attacking Crutchlow, who drove the entire race on the very edge of the grip offered to him by the tires. After a few breathtaking moments, the Yamaha Tech 3 racer overtook Rossi with an excellent maneuver, and there were 14 laps left until the end of the race.

All this time, Marquez only increased the advantage. When Crutchlow was done with the “Doctor” he immediately set up the fastest lap of the race and set out to hunt for the leading Spaniard. Despite the pressure of a more experienced racer, Marquez did not let himself be disturbed and was the first to reach the finish line. Rossi was third and home hero Bradl was fourth.

The caravan is now moving to American soil. Next weekend we will have a racing treat in Laguna Seca. Marc Marquez is coming there as the leader in the overall standings, with two points ahead of Dani Pedrosa and eleven ahead of current champion Jorge Lorenzo. The latter both had to miss the race in Germany as they both injured their collarbones. Pedrosa will return to the motorcycle in Laguna Seca, while Lorenzo will have to skip the race.
