Marquez: I'd rather fall in the fight for the podium than simply finish in the top 10

Marc Marquez does not regret his approach to the MotoGP race in France, where he fell in the penultimate lap in the fight for second place with Jorge Martin.

The Honda rider, who started the race from second place, says he'd rather fall in the fight for the podium than settle for just finishing in the top ten.

The Spaniard made just the second MotoGP Grand Prix of the year after suffering an injury in the opening race in Portugal and then missed three races.

"To be honest, I'm very, very happy with today's race," said Marquez. "It's a shame that we didn't get an award for our work. But I was riding very well, I haven't felt this good in a long time. I was able to enter the corners with sliding and late braking and fight with other racers and I'm happy about that. Of course, I'm not happy about the result. The problem may be that the podium was close, but we weren't ready for it. But at the end of the day, I'd rather lose the race like this than settle for a top ten finish. I enjoyed the race, but we have to keep working and improve for future races.”

Marquez attributed the fall to bike wobble coming out of turn six, which caused him to lose his balance under braking at turn seven, but after finishing fifth in the sprint race, he says this race weekend was just what he needed to boost his confidence.

Honda used the new chassis for the first time in the race, which was made for them by Kalex. Marquez says that only this has brought improvement, but there is no significant change. "The chassis is a bit better, but it's not the solution to our problems. Even Mir, who is the world champion, used this chassis and had a lot of problems. He rode in the background and crashed again, which means we have to change something for future races to be more competitive and make the bike safer. Honda racers are at the top every year in terms of the number of crashes. It's not just about me. Mir fell three or four times in Jerez, three times here, that means we have to improve," added the Honda star.
