Mardenborough in GP2

Jann Mardenborough will make his debut in the GP2 series at the upcoming race weekend in Monza, replacing Sean Galael in the Carlin team. Sean is performing his duties in the Renault 3.5 series in Silverstone, which created a vacant seat for Janna, who otherwise drives for Carlin in the GP3 series.

Carlin team boss Trevor Carlin said: “As Sean performs his duties in the Renault 3.5 formula, we have decided to give Jann a chance to taste the GP2 series car for the first time. Jann is a very talented and fast racer. Unfortunately, he had quite a bit of luck this year, which means that he did not achieve the results that he is otherwise able to win. ”

Trevor says that this weekend will be mainly educational and informative for Janna. The 23-year-old himself says it won’t be easy: “I don’t expect it to be easy. It will not be easy to move forward, but I must not refuse. GP2 is very different from GP3 with DRS and two tire blends, as well as longer races and stops. I'm used to this from racing, but it will be a big step forward for me, where I will give my best. Thanks to Carlin and Nissan for this opportunity. ”
