Marco Melandri will return to the Royal MotoGP motorcycle class caravan after four years in the Superbike series. The Italian has signed a contract with the Gresini Racing team, which will compete with Aprilia's engines next season.

Melandri raced in the top class of motorcycling for eight years, during which time he won five races. In 2010, he said goodbye to the series and tried his luck in the Superbike series. There, he also joined Aprilia this year, with whom they will return to MotoGP together.

“I was offered the opportunity to help develop a whole new project. I have never done this in my career, as I have always “inherited” engines developed by others, ”Melandri said. “This challenge is very appealing to me. I work with the factory and the racing department that joined me and with which I want to continue to work and develop a great project.

Aprilia Racing has always been known for making great and fast engines. I will do my best.

Our goal is high, as we want to assemble the engine, and at the same time develop a prototype for the 2016 season. The season will be demanding and working, but we are ready for all these challenges, ”he announced.
