Marco Bezzecchi: I prefer to see that my rivals are not my friends

MotoGP World Championship points leader Marco Bezzecchi said it feels strange when he fights with his friends from the VR46 Academy, so he prefers to clash with rivals who are not his friends.

Bezzecchi is no stranger to duels with Francesco Bagnaia, Luca Marini and Franco Morbidelli, at least as far as the dirt track at Valentino Rossi's Ranch is concerned, but rival bikes have made friends become rivals on the MotoGP track as well.

With victory in Argentina, his first in his career and the first for the VR46 team, the Italian took the lead in the championship classification and although he himself says that about the fight for the 2023 championship title isn't thinking yet, but he talked about competing with other members of Rossi's academy.

"To be honest, I prefer to see my rivals not as my friends. But with Pecco, Luca, Franki and in the future I hope also with Vietti, it is different," he said. "We have been training together for many years, but when we race in MotoGP and close the visor, all competitors are the same for me and I try to overtake each one. We know each other well, we know each other's weak and strong points, so things are more spicy on the track."

Bagnaia said that the duels on the MotoGP tracks are much more polite than at the VR46 ranch. "The cleanest duels take place here," said the current MotoGP world champion. "At home things are more difficult, dirtier, but it's nice to see other racers from the academy. We are developing together and this year we took a big step forward. But we have a smart approach because we know that if we work together at home, we can all be at the forefront of MotoGP. We have to stay smart and fight as cleanly as possible."
