Marc Marquez has announced ahead of the final race of the 2023 MotoGP season that he will not hold back and will attack if given the chance in his final race for the Repsol Honda team.
Marquez celebrated a podium finish in the sprint race on Saturday, confirming his solid form in Valencia, and he did not let up in the sprint test, even as he battled Jorge Martin, who is locked in a title battle with Francesco Bagnaio .
"It was close with the title contender, but everyone is riding full speed until the end and trying to get the best possible result," said Marquez, who started the race from ninth place and dedicated the podium to his 11-year partnership with Repsol Honda. "Between the fourth and fifth corner, Binder and Vinales were overtaking each other, so Jorge braked a bit earlier and gave me a chance. He closed the space well, but when I saw that he was next to me, I let off the gas, because otherwise I would probably have crashed. I tried to keep an eye on him, but even so there was a touch. I will do my best tomorrow too."
The six-time MotoGP world champion, who has yet to win a race this year, sensed an opportunity ahead of Sunday's race and is ready to risk everything in the farewell race for Honda. "I will attack. If I have the right rhythm and if I get a chance I will attack. I didn't try to overtake Martin and Pecc in Qatar. Pecca in the sprint race, Martina in the main race, because I just didn't have the right speed, so it didn't make sense to attack. But here I have the necessary speed and I want to fight for myself, for my best possible result. All the time within the limits.”
