Manor is not and will not be our team

The Red Bull team, which also owns the Toro Rosso team, is thus a specialty in the Formula 1 caravan, as the competition has nothing like it. For them, Toro Rosso represents an opportunity where young racers can gain their first real experience with Formula 1 race cars.

Some have started describing the Manor team as a Mercedes junior, as their current racers Pascal Wehrlein and Esteban Ocon come from the Mercedes junior. The team also uses a Mercedes engine for its engine.

Toto Wolff in a conversation with reporters rejected such hints. “We don’t own the team and we also have no intention of becoming that. The team will not belong to us in terms of ownership and we will not support it financially, "Wolff was clear, thus showing that they do not want copies of the Toro Rosso team.

Engaging both racers is also a good opportunity for young racers, according to Wolff, but difficult negotiations were needed here. "We had an open opportunity to hire young racers, but we had weeks of long negotiations before we reached a final agreement," explained the Austrian. At the same time, he also promised further cooperation. "We will continue to work with them, but at the moment all our energy is focused on our team and securing the title of world champion. We can continue with the activities we have had with the Manor team so far, "Wolff added in an explanation.

As mentioned, Red Bull uses the Toro Rosso team as a "hatchery" for young racers, but the Mercedes team does not see such a possibility in Manor. "There is no such possibility and there will not be, as we estimate that we do not have enough capacity for such a quality project," it was emphasized once again in the conclusion.

Of course, Wolff is also aware that their current collaboration gives them the opportunity to discover the talent themselves, as Red Bull discovered in Max Verstappn, whom some see as a great racer, despite the criticism he is currently receiving. Wolff also makes no secret of the fact that Verstappen slipped through their hands, as they did not have a team where such a youngster could be hired. “We could only offer him GP2, which of course was not enough compared to the seat offered in the Toro Rosso team car. Formula 1 is "formula 1," Wolff concluded.
