At Lotus, they have managed to draw some positive conclusions from today. They were even happier with the fact that their E21 car behaves much better in the rain than its predecessor.
“Today is a very positive day. In the last free practice I was the fastest, which is the first time in my career that I was at the top of the official training, for which I thank the team, for all the effort. With the settings, we took a whole new approach, which obviously paid off. Unfortunately, the continuation of the qualifications has been postponed, but we can already be satisfied with the achievements in the first part. The wet track was not our ally last year, but we saw today that we have improved.
I feel sorry for the spectators who persevered with us despite the bad weather. Tomorrow is a big day, which seems to be mostly dry, so we hope to be able to give them an interesting show, ”said Romain Grosjean.
“It wasn’t easy to find a way past all the race cars on the track. A lot of racers drove off the track, yellow flags were hung, but in the end we qualified for the second part of the qualifiers, so not everything is so bad. The race car in the rain is not bad. It’s definitely better than last year, but today it was harder to find space on the track. It is a pity that the continuation of the qualifications has been postponed to tomorrow, but it is the same for all racers, ”commented Kimi Raikkonen on the qualifications.
