Jorge Lorenzo in Andrea Dovizioso they have not yet signed a contract for next season. Lorenzo has already contacted the Aprilia team for a test racer. In doing so, the position of a test racer at Yamaha opens up, which could be occupied by the current Ducati racer, Dovizioso.
The Italian said he might want a year off in MotoGP, but he is aware that a year off can bring a lot of downsides as you lose touch with the best and then find it harder to get back among the rest. Dovi was already driving for the Yamaha Tech 2012 team in the 3 season when he was ousted from the Honda team before transferring to the Ducati factory team. The Italian has been in talks for a test racer at both Honda, Yamaha and KTM. In addition to the salary, the requirements are that he can also play other MotoGP-related sports during the season, such as motocross, where he wants to compete in the championship, as he did at the beginning of this season, where he broke his collarbone in the Emilia Romagna championship. A key element in Dovizioso’s decision is also which manufacturer allows him to return to MotoGP in the 2022 season.
Honda is not happy with the condition that Dovi participate in other competitions. With two victories this year, the KTM team is satisfied with the current test racer Dani Pedroso. That leaves only Yamaha, which will most likely be left without test racer Jorget Lorenzot. Yamaha, however, could secure him a seat in the 2022 season at Petronas Yamaha, as Valentino Rossi has only a one-season contract and could later come to MotoGP with his team as well.
Yamaha is not happy with the tests performed by Jorge Lorenzo in Portimao, as he lagged behind all rivals by more than 2 seconds per lap. Yamaha is also not ready to extend its contract with Lorenzot due to the large financial contract it has with Lorenzot. Current test racer Aprillie Bradley Smith will most likely take his place on the team instead of the punished Andrea Iannonet. The place of the test racer could be taken by a Spaniard.
