In Spain at the Jerez racetrack, Jorge Lorenzo was 0.003 seconds faster in the first free practice than Dani Pedrosa, who finished second. Third was Valentino Rossi behind him Cal Crutchlow and rookie Marc Marquez was fifth. He was very fast again with the CRT motorcycle Aleix Espargaro in ninth place ahead of Andrea Dovizios, who was tenth.
