The fact that the motorcyclists of the KTM factory team have always stood on the podium in the last 12 performances of the Dakar Rally is no coincidence. In addition to top-class racing on desert dunes, the Austrian manufacturer has also built its superiority over the years through the sophisticated, systematized and methodical work of the accompanying teams.

The plan for the upcoming 13-stage desert classic is simple: the Red Bull KTM Factory Team wants to continue and upgrade its success. In South America, the team’s strongest weapons will be three-time Dakar winner Marc Coma, along with Ruben Faria and Chaleco Lopez, also old acquaintances of the podium.

The KTM 450 racers and their engines will be taken care of by a 34-member technical and logistics team in South America. Preparations for this spectacular race take place at KTM HQ in Mattighofn, Austria all year round. The final list of equipment that will travel to the Dakar Rally includes, among other things, 24 drive units (according to domestic engines) and 150 spare wheels.

The accompanying team must be prepared for any possible problems that it must be able to solve "here and now." This is made possible by three 26-tonne accompanying MAN trucks, which carry almost everything with them - from nuts and bolts to a water shower for mechanics.

A novelty in the ranks of the accompanying Red Bull KTM Factory Team are four air-conditioned motorhomes manufactured by ADRIA from Novo mesto. In them, after 10 or 12 hours of racing, riders can rest at least a little before the next stage. Team technical director Stefan Huber says of the new acquisition: "A piece of luxury in the middle of nowhere."
After the latest strenuous checks of the entire inventory, all Red Bull KTM Factory Team equipment, including engines, trucks and motorhomes, was sent to Le Havre, France. There, the "racing packages" of several teams were loaded on the giant container ship Grande Roma, which is now sailing towards Argentina. After three weeks of sailing across the Atlantic Ocean, a completely new story will begin to be written - the 2014 Dakar Rally!
