Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM has also officially confirmed that Danilo Petrucci, who is ending his career as a motoGP racer in Valencia this weekend, will compete with their team at the Dakar 2022 Rally.

“Danilo is one of the few racers who is able to successfully bridge the radical change from asphalt to sand dunes,” KTM sports chief Pit Beirer said at the confirmation of the news. “We want to thank him for the professional attitude and all the effort in the Tech3 team, and our motoGP project. Now is the time for a completely different world. ”

Petrucci is no stranger to offroad motorcycling, as, like most motoGP riders, he has often trained on motocross and enduro motorcycles. However, the Italian, who won two victories and a total of ten podiums on the asphalt, is nevertheless aware that his performance on the Dakar desert dunes is a great challenge.

The 32-year-old Petrucci has already passed his first test during the race in Misano and Portimao in Dubai, where he was accompanied by KTM's Jordi Viladoms, and factory KTM racers Matthias Walkner, Toby Price and current Dakar champion Kevin Benavides.
