The Lotus team has confirmed that Kimi Raikkonen will be replaced in the last two races of this season by his compatriot Heikki Kovalainen. The former McLaren racer until recently served as a test racer for the Caterham team, which has already fired him from all obligations.
At the last minute, Lotus had only their reserve racers, David Valsecchi and Kovalainen, to choose from, and the latter was chosen because of the experience that will benefit them in the fight for the highest possible ranking in the construction championship. Lotus is in fourth place among the constructors two races before the end. They are 26 points away from Ferrari in the third, and eleven more from the second-ranked Mercedes.
