Lotus racer Kimi Raikkonen said after the Silverstone race that he could not keep his rivals behind him in the final laps. The Finn, who was driving in second place, did not drive to the stop in the final stage of the safety car, while the other racers changed their tires. The champion from the 2007 season was therefore unable to defend his places in the continuation of the race and fell to fifth in the finish.
“I tried to stick to the last laps of the race, but with tires that were used some 20 laps more than those fitted by competitors, I just couldn’t compete. Too bad, as the race was going relatively well until then. We were fast enough and it looked like we were going to win second place. But that’s part of racing. This was already the third race where we did not achieve the expected result. We may have a bit more luck and a few fewer mistakes in the future, which will bring us back to the forefront, ”said a disappointed Raikkonen. His teammate Romain Grosjean resigned in the last part of the race due to an extensive front wing injury.
