At the end of this year's season, the Formula One caravan will lose as many as two racers, who have become a kind of icon of this sport in all the years of racing. After Felipe Massi, Jenson Button also announced his farewell, leaving his racing seat to young Stoffle Vandoorn next season.

The farewell, however, may be only temporary, as the 2009 season champion will play a different role with the team in the 2017 season, and a year later he could already be back behind the wheel of the race car, although this is unlikely.

The Briton will start his 298th race tomorrow.

“He was great for our team both on and off the track,” said Ron Dennis, McLaren boss. “This year, too, he is excellent, not only fast, but also experienced. He will start his 298th race tomorrow and as such is the most experienced racer in the caravan. Upon contract extension until the end of the 2018 season, he will remain with us as an influential and dedicated member, and his role will be to develop our cars. If necessary, he will also be available to take part in the race, ”added Dennis.
