Yamaha general manager Lin Jarvis gave his view on the factory lineup for next season in an interview. He also spoke about the future of Valentino Rossi.

Jarvis already has a detailed plan for how to return the title to his team after (for now) four dry years. In an interview with the Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, he presented a look at the plans of the Iwate team for the 2021 season. In this, at least in the factory team, there will no longer be Valentino Rossi, who will be replaced by Fabio Quartararo.

The Yamaha team filled the headlines at the beginning of the calendar year after making a number of decisions in just a few days. The first in a row was the contract extension for another two seasons with Maverick Vinales. Just a day later, however, it was officially confirmed that his new teammate will be last season’s best rookie Fabio Quartararo. This was followed by the news that Jorge Lorenzo is returning to the team, this time in the role of a test racer.

“The signing of the contract with Fabio for 2021 happened relatively quickly, as we want to be competitive. We want to win with our most powerful weapons, be it software, hardware, racers or mechanics. ”

They also had to hurry when signing the contract extension with Vinales, as the tentacles against him were already being tightened at Ducati.

“It wasn’t hard to convince Vinales to stay. The most important thing was that we presented him with a plan that suited him. He needs to be aware of how important he is to our team. It is also important for us to become a benchmark for others again. We are very pleased with the racing team for the 2021 season. Fabio represents the fastest and most talented young racer, and Maverick has quite a bit of experience in addition to speed. This is the strongest possible pair to fight Marco Marquez.

Rossi's future is still in question

The only stranger at Yamaha is Valentino Rossi. The Italian has recently admitted that he wants to continue. In case he does, he will also have a factory motorcycle available in the Petronas team.

“This is a topic we are currently talking about. His plan was to decide after the first five, six races. Due to the current situation, he will have to do it sooner, because we also have to look to the future. My wish is for him to continue, because ending my career in such a way with fewer races and without spectators would be unfair to such a champion. ”
