Bezzecchi: If I hit Marini, Vale and Uccio would kill me

Marco Bezzecchi finished second in Saturday's sprint race, just behind winner Brad Binder. If the race had lasted a lap longer, he would have probably managed to win.

At the start of the race, he lost quite a bit of time in the fight with Francesco Bagnaia and Maverick Vinales, then quickly overtook Alex Marquez, Franco Morbidelli and teammate Luca Marini. He entered the final lap half a second behind the leader Binder and quickly stuck to the back of his bike. The South African successfully fended off the attacks and cruised to victory. Nevertheless, the Italian was not overly disappointed with the second place.

"It's a great sprint for me," said Bezzecchi, who is considered one of the favorites in today's race, after the end of the day.

"The start itself was not the best, but I managed to stay in the front. The most stressful moment was overtaking Marini. In the fifth turn, everyone braked very late. I myself decided to brake a bit earlier and overtake Luca with a risky maneuver. We collided a bit. Fortunately, everything turned out well. Otherwise, Vale and Ucciu would kill me.”

“Brad defended very well in the last lap. In the end I was maybe half a lap short of even winning. Tomorrow will be a different story, as it will also be necessary to focus on tire wear. I am satisfied with my performance and I am optimistic before the main race."
