Nico Hulkenberg is pleased to have finished eighth at the Malaysian Grand Prix, securing his first points for Sauber. Hulkenberg only drove the first race in Kuala Lumpur, as he did not compete in Australia at all due to a fuel supply problem. The German battled most of the race with Kimi Raikkonen in the Lotus, who eventually overtook him despite aggressively defending his place.

“I think four points in my first race of the season with a new team and a new race car is a very nice prize. I am very happy with the course of the race, I am especially proud of the start of the race when we were on the tires for light rain very fast. I later stopped in traffic and by no means found my way past the other racers. Eighth place is deserved as I had to fight a lot today. We definitely have the potential, but now we have to work on the details, ”said Hulkenberg.

Teammate Esteban Guttierez finished the race in twelfth place, which is why the Mexican believes he is making progress in his debut season. “Twelfth place is a good result, but if we finished in points, it would be ideal. In the end, we lost something small because we stayed on the same set of tires for too long. We tried to change tactics which did not work for us. That’s all we could do. I made progress this weekend, but if I want to get to the points, we will have to keep working. ”
