Will Honda repeat the 2009 season?

Existing manufacturers of Formula One engines (Ferrari, Mercedes, Renault) fear that Honda will have a concrete advantage over them in the 2014 season, as the freeze on engine development will not apply to the Japanese until the 2015 season, when they will officially enter Formula One. .

At Honda, they said they are worried, as they are expected to fall behind the other manufacturers, who will gain experience with the new 2014-liter turbo engines on the track throughout the 1.6 season.

But the three current manufacturers will have to homologate their engines by February 28, and from then on the engine will no longer be allowed to change due to the freeze on engine development, unless there are changes that are supposed to provide greater reliability.

Manufacturers are therefore concerned that Honda, which will be present at all technical meetings of the upcoming season and could thus gain a huge advantage based on the findings of competitors in the 2014 season.

It all stinks a lot after the 2009 season and the “magic” team Brawn GP (which originated from the failed Honda team), which in a similar situation was able to develop its car before the season without any restrictions (except technical and financial constraints), which are had to stick to the other teams and easily picked up both titles.

"We talked to other manufacturers for a long time, but we didn't find a solution," commented Ferrari boss Stefano Domenicali. "Honda cannot be forced to freeze its engines, as it is not yet officially registered as part of Formula One, which would deter other manufacturers from entering the caravan. We are aware that the Japanese could enjoy a great advantage, as they will be able to adapt their engines to all the problems that we will face during the season, but there is nothing we can do about it. ”
