Lewis Hamilton became the most successful British racer in the history of Formula One by winning yesterday’s race in Austin, Texas. To win, he clashed, as is customary this season, with teammate Nico Rosberg.

Hamilton could not keep up with the German at first, but after a stop in the pits he started to drive faster and overtook Rosberg somewhere in the middle of the race. The former McLarn prodigy thus recorded his 32nd career win, one more than Nigel Mansll, and it was also his fifth consecutive win in his career, the longest string of his victories since a Formula One race.

At the same time, the Briton also increased his advantage in the overall standings of the World Cup. He now has a 24-point advantage over Rosberg, which means that the season can in no way be decided before the last race in Abu Dhabi, where double points will be awarded.

Nico Rosberg started the race from the best starting position and immediately after the start he sovereignly escaped the pursuers. The race was soon interrupted by a safety car, as there was a collision between Sergio Perez and Adrian Sutil.

Rosberg remained collected even as the race continued with a flying start, while Hamilton fell behind more and more. At the first stop, the final winner slightly rearranged the front wings, which obviously helped him, as he soon caught Rosberg, and with the help of a moving rear wing, overtook him without much difficulty or struggle.

Rosberg only followed him to the finish in second place, third was Daniel Ricciardo, who managed to overtake the Williams race cars that stood in front of him at the start. Vlatters Bottas and Felipe Massa were fourth and fifth, respectively, and Fernando Alonso kept Sebastian Vettl behind with some difficulty and crossed the finish line in sixth.

Kevin Magnussen was the only McLarn points winner in seventh place.

Jean-Eric Vergne initially advanced to ninth place after Pastor Maldonado fell to tenth for a five-second penalty mark-up earned by the Venezuelan for speeding through the pits. But later, Vergna was also penalized, who, according to the commissioners, knocked Romain Grosjean off the track and Maldonado eventually won ninth place, with which he also won the first points of the year. Gorsjean was eleventh, just ahead of Jenson Button, who faced an impassable race car throughout the race. A similar fate befell Kimi Raikkonen, who finished the race in thirteenth place after Perez injured his car before colliding with Sutil. Only Esteban Gutierrez and Daniil Kvjat finished the race behind the Finn.
