Romain Grosjean will get a five-point mark-up on placing in today’s qualifiers as they unexpectedly replace the gearbox in Haas ’VF-16 race car after the last free practice.

The Frenchman had previously spun in a chic Ascari in training and remained trapped in the sand. Before getting out of the car, he announced on the radio that he had "lost the gearbox".

The rules of Formula 1 stipulate that a gear racer must use six consecutive races. Failure to do so will result in a penalty.
